A redevelopment of the Waikato hospital site in Hamilton included a rationalisation of on-site car parking and vehicle access arrangements in addition to changes to the clinical services and associated building provision. The proposed works included a new car parking building and upgraded public access route with provision for scheduled bus services within the site.
TPC provided advice on traffic engineering and transport planning aspects of the project during preliminary design leading up to the application for resource consent. The assessment undertaken by TPC included wider roading network analysis, parking and access requirements during the staged upgrade on the site, and a safety review of internal vehicle and pedestrian access ways. Liaison with Hamilton City Council and the New Zealand Transport Agency (then Transit New Zealand) was undertaken as part of the preparation of the transport assessment submitted for resource consent.
